How to Use KIDB

Your complete guide to using KIDB for Kerala PSC exam preparation — from joining practice tests to tracking your progress.

1

Getting Started

Before you can start practicing on KIDB, you need to create a free account. Registration is quick and straightforward, and there are two ways to sign up:

Email OTP Login

Enter your email address and we will send you a one-time password (OTP). Enter the OTP to verify your identity and access your account. No password to remember.

Google Sign-In

Click "Sign in with Google" to use your existing Google account. This is the fastest way to get started as it automatically fills in your name and email.

After signing in for the first time, you will be asked to complete your profile by entering your name. This is the name that will appear on leaderboards when you participate in practice tests, so choose a name you are comfortable displaying publicly.

Once your profile is complete, you will be redirected to your dashboard where you can see your practice history, results, and progress.

2

Finding and Joining Quizzes

The KIDB homepage is your central hub for discovering practice tests. Tests are organized into three sections based on their current status:

LIVE

Live Practice Tests

These tests are currently active and accepting participants. You can join them immediately if the join window is still open. Each test has a limited join window after it goes live, so act quickly when you see a live test.

UPCOMING

Upcoming Practice Tests

These tests are scheduled for a future time. You can see the start time, category, and number of questions. Check back when the test goes live to join.

COMPLETED

Completed Tests

These tests have ended. You can view the leaderboard, check the questions and answers with explanations. This is a great way to learn and prepare for upcoming PSC exams.

How to Join a Live Practice Test

  1. Click on any live test card on the homepage to view its details.
  2. On the test detail page, you will see the category, number of questions, and time per question.
  3. Click the "Join Quiz" button to enter the practice test.
  4. You will be taken directly to the first question. The timer starts immediately.

Important: You must be logged in to join a practice test. If you are not logged in, you will be redirected to the login page first.

3

Playing a Quiz

Once you join a practice test, you enter the quiz play screen. Here is what you need to know about the practice experience:

The Quiz Interface

  • Question Display: Each question is shown one at a time with its multiple-choice options. Read the question carefully before selecting an answer.
  • Countdown Timer: A timer counts down for each question. You must answer before the timer runs out, or the question will be automatically marked as unanswered.
  • Progress Indicator: You can see which question number you are on and how many questions remain in the quiz.

Answering Questions

For each question, you have three choices:

Answer Correctly

Select the right option to earn +1 point

Answer Incorrectly

Wrong answer deducts 0.33 points

Skip the Question

No points gained or lost (0 points)

Important Rules During Play

  • You must complete the quiz in a single session. Do not close the browser or navigate away.
  • Switching tabs or minimizing the browser during a quiz may be flagged as a violation.
  • Copying, pasting, or using external tools is not allowed and will be detected.
  • Each question has a fixed time limit. Once the timer expires, the question is marked as unanswered and you move to the next one.
4

Scoring System

KIDB uses a transparent scoring system designed to reward both accuracy and knowledge while discouraging random guessing — just like the actual PSC exam. Understanding how scores are calculated will help you make better decisions during practice tests.

Action Points Description
Correct Answer +1.00 Full marks awarded for selecting the right option
Wrong Answer -0.33 Negative marking for incorrect answers to discourage guessing
Unanswered / Skipped 0.00 No penalty for skipping — a safe option when unsure

Score Calculation Example

Suppose a quiz has 10 questions and you answer 7 correctly, 2 incorrectly, and skip 1:

7 correct answers: 7 x (+1.00) = +7.00
2 wrong answers: 2 x (-0.33) = -0.66
1 skipped question: 1 x (0.00) = 0.00
Total Score: 6.34

Pro Tip: If you are unsure about an answer, it is often better to skip the question rather than guess. A wrong answer costs you 0.33 points, which means you need to get roughly 3 correct answers for every 1 wrong answer just to break even on guessing.

5

Leaderboards and Rankings

After a practice test ends, all participants are ranked on a public leaderboard. This helps you understand where you stand among fellow PSC aspirants. Here is how rankings work:

Ranking Criteria

Participants are ranked using a multi-level tiebreaking system to ensure fairness:

  1. Total Score (Primary): The participant with the highest score is ranked first. Score is calculated using the scoring formula described above.
  2. Correct Answer Count (Tiebreaker 1): If two participants have the same score, the one with more correct answers is ranked higher. This rewards knowledge over caution.
  3. Completion Time (Tiebreaker 2): If the score and correct answer count are still tied, the participant who completed the quiz faster is ranked higher. Speed matters when accuracy is equal.

Leaderboards are available on each quiz's detail page. You can view the top performers, their scores, number of correct answers, and the time they took to complete the quiz.

If you participated in a quiz, you can also check your personal results by visiting the quiz result page from your dashboard. This shows your answers, the correct answers, and a detailed breakdown of your performance.

6

Winning and Claiming Prizes

KIDB awards rewards to top performers in select practice tests as extra motivation. Here is everything you need to know about how rewards work:

Prize Distribution

  • Each quiz displays its prize amount on the quiz card and detail page.
  • The top-ranked participant on the leaderboard wins the full prize amount.
  • In case of a perfect tie (same score, same correct count, same time), the prize is split equally among the tied participants.

How to Claim Your Prize

  1. If you win, you will receive a notification on the Kidb homepage.
  2. Click the notification to go to the payout claim page.
  3. Enter your phone number and verify it with an OTP.
  4. Once verified, your payout request is submitted to our team for processing.
  5. Payouts are reviewed and processed by our administrators.

Note: You must complete profile verification and phone number verification before receiving any prize. Payouts are processed securely and may take some time to complete. Winners are solely responsible for any applicable taxes on prizes received.

Fair Play Rules

We take fair play very seriously at KIDB. To ensure a level playing field for all students, we have implemented multiple layers of protection and have strict rules that every user must follow:

What is Not Allowed

  • VPN or Proxy Usage: Using VPNs, proxies, or any IP-masking tools during a quiz is prohibited. Our system automatically detects and blocks such connections.
  • Multiple Accounts: Each person is allowed only one account. Creating additional accounts to gain unfair advantages will result in a permanent ban on all associated accounts.
  • Tab Switching: Opening multiple browser tabs or switching away from the quiz tab during an active quiz will be flagged. Repeated violations can lead to disqualification.
  • Automated Tools: Using bots, scripts, browser extensions, or any automated tools to answer questions is strictly prohibited.
  • Sharing Answers: Collaborating with other participants or sharing quiz answers during an active quiz is not allowed.
  • Copy and Paste: Copying quiz questions to search for answers externally is detected and flagged by our system.

Our Anti-Cheat Technology

KIDB employs a comprehensive anti-fraud system that includes:

  • Device Fingerprinting: We track unique device characteristics to detect users with multiple accounts.
  • IP Intelligence: Our system analyzes IP addresses to detect VPNs, proxies, and suspicious connections.
  • Behavioral Analysis: We monitor user behavior during quizzes for patterns that indicate cheating.
  • Session Locking: Each quiz attempt is locked to a single browser session to prevent sharing access.

Violations of these rules can result in flagging, disqualification from the quiz, forfeiture of prizes, or a permanent account ban. For a complete list of rules, please review our Terms and Conditions.

Tips and Strategies

Want to improve your PSC exam preparation? Here are proven strategies from top KIDB students:

1. Read Questions Completely

Under time pressure, it is tempting to read just the first few words and jump to an answer. Resist this urge. Many quiz questions contain keywords like "not," "except," "always," or "never" that completely change the correct answer. Take a moment to read the full question before looking at the options.

2. Use the Process of Elimination

If you do not immediately know the answer, try to eliminate options you know are wrong. Even if you can only eliminate one or two options, your chances of guessing correctly improve significantly. With four options, eliminating two gives you a 50% chance instead of 25%.

3. Know When to Skip

Because of negative marking (-0.33 for wrong answers), guessing randomly is statistically disadvantageous. If you have no idea about a question and cannot eliminate any options, skipping is usually the smarter choice. Save your score for questions you actually know.

4. Study the Question Bank

Our Question Bank contains all questions from past quizzes with correct answers and detailed explanations. Regularly reviewing past questions helps you identify patterns in the types of questions asked and strengthens your knowledge base.

5. Stay Updated on Current Affairs

Many quizzes include questions on recent events, discoveries, and trending topics. Reading news daily, following current events, and staying informed about developments in science, sports, and culture will give you a measurable advantage in these categories.

6. Manage Your Time Wisely

Remember that completion time is used as a tiebreaker. If you know the answer, do not wait unnecessarily before selecting it. At the same time, do not rush so fast that you make careless mistakes. Find the balance between speed and accuracy.
